About Support The Homeless.
Support The Homeless was started by three friends (3 jolly friends), who came together back in 2018 to form a non-for-profit trust in order to help and support the vulnerable and homeless people throughout Great Britain.
The role that we play is very much, first contact crisis management. Many of those that sleep rough or who are part of the hidden homeless, have trust issues. We distribute food to them on the streets, sometimes clothes and sometimes with a small amount of emergency money. We gradually build a relationship with homeless people that enables us to signpost and introduce them to other agencies that can provide additional help.
To support and build our operation we have raised funds via shows and events which helped with our outreach throughout the Essex, London and the greater London area.
Since 2020 when the world changed and a crisis unfolded, we begun working with Fare share and started to collect and distribute food across mostly the same areas and also down to the Hampshire area and south coast, supplying food and clothes and emergency packages for the homeless and the vulnerable, many of these people had been left out on the streets.
As part of our learning curve and all the while gaining more and more experience with our contacts, we have been able to offer more help and advice. We began working with other charitable organisations and helped people find temporary accommodation through the councils and working with some charities.
We continued our outreach and food parcel service throughout 2021 and have added a street food kitchen to our services. Our food kitchen has been set up across London in areas such as Seven Sisters, Shoreditch, Covent Garden and tower bridge south bank. Also working alongside a charity organisation called Streets Kitchen and their volunteers and provided our street set up and van, who offer a big service across many areas of London.
This service has helped as build a good bond with the homeless and vulnerable people in the heart of the area where it has been most needed, this brings hot food and drinks as we prepare on our tables and with cooking on gas burners etc, this brings good cheer, hope and communication.
We have been helped with funding and donations as we have moved along with our work and have gained vast experience which has helped us grow and find the next way forwards.
We continue our work to supply food and support packages via the Fare share organisation for food, clothes and to offer advice and support to the homeless and the vulnerable, There has never been a greater need.
Now we will be heading into our fourth year shortly and the time has gone very quick, we have gained very good experience and contacts which will help us move onwards into the future.
Our next plans are to raise the finance that we need in order to take Support The Homeless into the future and continue to expand our help and services and good work.
We are set up as a not for profit company. It is our intention to finalise our charity registration in the next 12 months.
We intend to reach out to homeless people that are in need. Many of the people that we help have fallen through the system. Perhaps by a freindly word, a warm mug of coffee or tea and some food we can start to help them find a pathway that will help them.
